Battleship - Europe Tier VII Lugdunum
Captain & Ship Build and Strategy Guide
- Build focus: Full secondary build
- Playstyle: Aggressive close-range battleship
- Main strength: Highly effective secondary battery
- Main weakness: Low AP shell damage and relatively small HP pool
- Standard build: Secondary-focused build with IFHE
- Ranked option: Replace Grease the Gears with IFHE if not already selected, and consider Manual Secondary Battery Aiming instead of Concealment Expert
- Alternative: Standard tank build is viable, but is better suited to Lyon
- Applies to: Lugdunum
Lugdunum is essentially a secondary-focused evolution of Lyon. While she keeps the enormous four-turret, sixteen-gun layout, her main battery shells are significantly weaker in exchange for a much more capable secondary battery. Current ship data highlights both her high secondary efficiency and low AP shell damage.
That makes the secondary build the most natural way to get the most out of the ship. IFHE is particularly valuable because it improves the penetration of the secondary guns, allowing more of their shells to deal direct damage rather than relying primarily on fires.
For Ranked Battles, the build can be pushed even further toward close-range combat. IFHE becomes especially attractive when facing Tier VII and lower ships, while Manual Secondary Battery Aiming can replace Concealment Expert when you want to maximize the secondary battery's effectiveness against a designated target. The current commander-skill system also provides significant accuracy improvements when a target is designated.
Lugdunum still retains respectable protection, but she is not a ship that should be played like a conventional long-range battleship. Her relatively small HP pool means that taking unnecessary damage while closing the distance can leave you without enough health for the fight you actually want to have.
The ideal engagement starts before you enter secondary range. Approach using islands, friendly ships and terrain whenever possible, then commit once the enemy is already occupied. Your goal is to create a close-range fight where the secondary battery can continuously work while your main guns provide additional salvo damage.
Avoid charging simply because an enemy is within reach. Lugdunum can be extremely effective once she gets into a brawl, but a poorly timed push can leave you surrounded by several ships with no support. Wait for the right moment, then use the secondary battery to overwhelm an isolated or already weakened target.
A standard tank build remains perfectly usable, particularly in Random Battles, but it does not exploit what makes Lugdunum different from Lyon. The secondary setup turns her unusual gun layout and improved secondary armament into the centerpiece of the ship rather than treating them as a bonus.
Lugdunum is therefore best viewed as a dedicated Tier VII brawler. Build around the secondaries, choose engagements carefully and close the distance only when the enemy is vulnerable. When the timing is right, the combination of sixteen main guns and a powerful secondary battery can make her extremely dangerous at close range.
