Battleship - U.S.S.R. Tier VII Arkhangelsk
Captain & Ship Build and Strategy Guide
- Build focus: Standard mid-tier tank battleship build
- Playstyle: Accurate battleship with battlecruiser-like gun performance
- Main strength: High main-battery accuracy and long firing range
- Main weakness: Small HP pool, weak armor and low speed
- Skill preference: Basics of Survivability over Improved Repair Party Readiness for a dedicated mid-tier captain
- Shared captain: Take Improved Repair Party Readiness if the captain is also used on higher-tier battleships
- Key tip: Use Arkhangelsk's accuracy to punish exposed targets rather than relying on armor to absorb damage
- Applies to: Arkhangelsk
Arkhangelsk is a Soviet Tier VII battleship based on the British Royal Sovereign class. She combines the appearance and fundamentals of an older dreadnought with unusually accurate main guns, making her feel closer to a battlecruiser when it comes to gunnery.
The historical ship had an equally unusual career. Royal Sovereign was transferred to the Soviet Union in 1944 and served as Arkhangelsk with the Northern Fleet before being returned to Britain in 1949 and dismantled.
For the captain build, use the standard mid-tier tank battleship setup. Basics of Survivability is generally the better choice than Improved Repair Party Readiness on a dedicated mid-tier captain because these ships are less likely to accumulate the potential damage required to activate the additional heal.
There is one important exception when sharing captains. If the same commander is also being used on higher-tier battleships, Improved Repair Party Readiness becomes much more attractive. In that case, keeping the skill provides more value across the captain's broader lineup.
In battle, Arkhangelsk should be played like a conventional battleship, but with extra emphasis on positioning and aim. Her main battery is one of her biggest strengths, with strong accuracy and a long firing range, so carefully selected salvos can punish enemy cruisers and battleships that expose their sides.
The trade-off is survivability. Arkhangelsk has a relatively small HP pool, weak bow and stern protection and low speed, making her less forgiving than many other Tier VII battleships. Do not assume that being a battleship means you can absorb concentrated fire indefinitely.
Keep an eye on the minimap and avoid positions that require a long retreat. Her low speed makes bad positioning particularly punishing, while her good rudder response and small turning circle can still help when dodging incoming fire or torpedoes.
Arkhangelsk ultimately rewards precise aim and sensible positioning. Use the accuracy to make your salvos count, avoid unnecessary exposure and let the enemy come into favorable firing situations rather than trying to win fights through raw durability.
