Destroyer - Europe Tier VIII Orkan - Conventional Build
- Build focus: A conventional Orkan build focused on destroyer hunting, reliable gun damage and making full use of Surveillance Radar.
- Playstyle: Use Orkan's concealment, mobility and Radar to create favorable engagements against enemy destroyers rather than relying on Smoke Generator.
- Main battery: Six 120 mm guns with a 4.5-second reload provide strong sustained damage and fire-starting potential.
- Utility: Surveillance Radar reaches 7.5 km and lasts 20 seconds, giving Orkan a powerful tool for controlling destroyer engagements.
- Survivability: Repair Party allows Orkan to recover damage after aggressive engagements and remain useful throughout the battle.
- Torpedoes: The single quadruple launcher provides long-range, fast torpedoes with a short reload, giving Orkan an additional weapon against larger targets.
- Alternative: A dedicated DPS build sacrifices some engagement control to increase Orkan's damage output and is covered on a separate page.
- Applies to: VIII Orkan.
Orkan is primarily a destroyer hunter, with its combination of rapid-firing guns, Surveillance Radar and Repair Party giving it a toolkit that few destroyers can replicate. The conventional build is intended to preserve the ship's ability to influence objectives while still producing consistent damage throughout the battle.
The most important part of the playstyle is not simply dealing damage, but controlling when an enemy destroyer is allowed to disengage. Radar can expose a concealed target at the moment when Orkan is ready to fire, turning an otherwise difficult destroyer encounter into a short window of concentrated gunfire. This makes map awareness and positioning particularly important, as Radar is most valuable when friendly ships are also able to take advantage of the detected target.
Orkan's six 120 mm guns have a 4.5-second reload and are well suited to sustained engagements. Rather than relying on a single large salvo, the ship applies repeated pressure while maneuvering to make return fire difficult. This is particularly effective after an enemy destroyer has been forced into a predictable position by Radar.
The Repair Party gives the conventional build additional flexibility. Losing some health while contesting or hunting another destroyer does not necessarily end the engagement for Orkan. The heal can restore part of that lost health and allows the ship to remain an active combatant after fights that would leave many other destroyers permanently weakened.
Unlike many European destroyers, Orkan does not depend on a Smoke Generator to create every firing opportunity. That changes the way engagements should be approached. Islands, concealment, speed and careful disengagement become important defensive tools, while Radar provides the offensive utility normally associated with a more specialized support destroyer.
The torpedoes complement this role rather than replacing the guns. Orkan has only one launcher, but its torpedoes provide a useful threat against battleships and cruisers and can be launched into likely movement paths while the ship is repositioning. This also gives Orkan a way to contribute damage when an enemy destroyer is not an appropriate target.
The conventional build is therefore the more balanced choice for players who want Orkan to perform its complete battlefield role. It retains the ship's ability to hunt destroyers with Radar while providing enough gun damage, survivability and mobility to remain useful after the initial objective fights are over.
