Destroyer - Europe Tier VIII Orkan - DPS Build
- Build focus: A DPS-oriented gunboat build designed to maximize Orkan's sustained main-battery damage.
- Playstyle: Play Orkan more aggressively as an open-water damage dealer, using speed and maneuverability to maintain gunfire against enemy ships.
- Main battery: Six 120 mm guns with a 4.5-second reload provide the core of the build and allow Orkan to maintain continuous shell pressure.
- Radar: Surveillance Radar reaches 7.5 km for 20 seconds, giving Orkan an important advantage when enemy destroyers attempt to approach or contest objectives.
- Damage output: The DPS setup prioritizes sustained gun damage over the more balanced utility of the conventional build.
- Survivability: Repair Party helps offset the additional exposure created by the aggressive playstyle and allows Orkan to remain active after taking damage.
- Torpedoes: The single quadruple torpedo launcher provides an additional source of pressure against larger ships, but the main battery remains the primary damage source.
- Trade-off: The DPS configuration is less focused on stealth and traditional destroyer utility, so positioning and open-water dodging become more important.
- Applies to: VIII Orkan.
The DPS Orkan build takes the ship's already strong gun platform and pushes it toward maximum sustained damage. Instead of building around carefully controlled destroyer engagements, this setup is intended for players who are comfortable staying active in open water and looking for frequent opportunities to fire.
Orkan's six 120 mm guns are particularly well suited to this approach. With a 4.5-second reload, the ship can maintain a high volume of fire once a target is within range. This makes larger ships attractive targets because their size and predictable movement provide more opportunities to accumulate direct damage and fires over the course of an engagement.
The major advantage of using a DPS configuration on Orkan is that the ship does not have to rely entirely on concealment to protect itself from enemy destroyers. Surveillance Radar provides a 7.5 km detection window, allowing Orkan to challenge concealed destroyers when they move into an unfavorable position. This utility helps compensate for the reduced emphasis on stealth in the damage-focused setup.
Open-water maneuvering is an important part of this build. Since Orkan does not have a Smoke Generator, simply stopping to farm a target can quickly become dangerous. Keep the ship moving, vary the rudder angle and use distance to make incoming shells harder to land. The goal is to turn Orkan's mobility into effective damage mitigation while keeping the guns firing.
The Repair Party further supports this aggressive approach. Some exposure is unavoidable when maximizing gun uptime, particularly when engaging battleships and cruisers at medium range. Recovering a portion of that damage allows Orkan to continue applying pressure instead of becoming ineffective after one prolonged engagement.
Radar should not be reserved exclusively for capturing or defending objectives. In the DPS build it can also create valuable windows for removing enemy destroyers from the battle. Detecting an opposing DD while your guns are ready can produce a much more significant tactical advantage than simply farming damage from a battleship.
The torpedoes remain a useful secondary weapon, especially when enemy battleships or cruisers are forced into predictable movement patterns. However, Orkan's single launcher limits its torpedo alpha compared with dedicated torpedo destroyers. The DPS build therefore treats torpedoes as an additional source of pressure while keeping the main battery at the center of the ship's damage output.
Compared with the Conventional Orkan build, this setup gives up some of the emphasis on concealment and balanced destroyer utility in exchange for a more aggressive damage profile. It is best suited to players who are confident in open-water gunboat play and can consistently keep Orkan's guns active without taking excessive return fire.
The result is a more aggressive version of Orkan that focuses on one simple principle: maximize gun uptime and turn every safe firing opportunity into damage. Radar provides the ability to deal with concealed destroyers, while mobility and Repair Party help Orkan survive the additional exposure required to maintain high damage output throughout the battle.
