Italy Tier VI Leone - Captain & Gunboat Build
- Build focus: A close-range gunboat build for Leone, using its long-duration Smoke Generator to create firing opportunities while retaining its unusually long-range torpedoes.
- Playstyle: Leone works best when fighting at closer ranges with its main battery. Its high shell drag and high shell arcs make long-range gunfire more difficult, so closing the distance before opening fire is recommended.
- Smoke Generator: Leone has access to a standard Smoke Generator with a 30-second action time and three charges, giving the ship extended opportunities to fire from concealment. The Smoke Generator has a longer duration than the standard Tier VI destroyer smoke profile.
- Torpedoes: Leone combines its gunboat role with long-range torpedoes. The torpedoes have a high range and fast reload, allowing them to remain an important part of the build even when the main battery is the primary weapon.
- Captain skills: If you prefer RPF (Radio Location), trade Fill the Tubes and Swift Fish for the skills required to reach RPF.
- Upgrade choice: If you do not have the Engine Boost Modification 1 upgrade, use Engine Room Protection (ERP) instead.
- Applies to: VI Leone.
Leone is a Tier VI Italian premium destroyer that combines a gun-focused playstyle with unusually long-range torpedoes. Its four twin 120 mm turrets provide the main offensive tool, while the Smoke Generator gives Leone the opportunity to disengage or create concealed firing positions. The ship also carries Engine Boost, giving the build an additional mobility option.
For the main battery, Leone is best played at relatively close range. Its shells have high drag and high arcs, which makes accurate long-range fire more difficult. Closing the distance before opening fire reduces the time available for the target to react and makes the ship's gunfire considerably more practical.
The moke Generatoris a key part of the build. Leone's smoke has a 30-second action time and three charges, allowing the ship to remain concealed while firing for an extended period. Use the smoke to create controlled gun engagements rather than relying exclusively on the ship's concealment.
Leone's torpedoes provide an important secondary weapon because of their long range and high reload potential. This allows the ship to threaten targets beyond its preferred gunfighting distance and maintain pressure while repositioning for the next close-range engagement.
