Destroyer - Pan-Asia Tier VIII Siliwangi - Captain & Gunboat Build
- Build focus: A gunboat build designed around Siliwangi's accurate 130 mm guns and high-impact SAP shells.
- Playstyle: Siliwangi is a mid-to-long-range gunboat that uses accurate fire, Smoke and Hydroacoustic Search to maintain pressure while controlling engagements.
- Main battery: Four 130 mm guns have a 12.51 km range and 4.5-second reload, allowing Siliwangi to maintain consistent fire from range.
- SAP shells: The 130 mm SAP shells deal up to 2,500 damage and are the ship's primary damage tool against suitable targets.
- Accuracy: Siliwangi's guns are particularly easy to aim at longer ranges, helping compensate for the relatively small number of guns.
- Consumables: Smoke Generator provides concealment while Hydroacoustic Search gives Siliwangi strong utility around objectives, islands and smoke screens.
- Weakness: Low damage per minute limits Siliwangi's ability to win prolonged gunfights through raw DPM alone, making target selection and positioning important.
- Upgrade: If the Hydroacoustic Search upgrade is unavailable, Engine Room Protection is a suitable alternative.
- Applies to: VIII Siliwangi.
Siliwangi is an unusual Pan-Asian destroyer that plays more like a precise medium-range gunboat than a traditional torpedo-focused destroyer. Her main battery consists of only four 130 mm guns, but the combination of good range, accuracy and SAP ammunition allows her to punish suitable targets consistently.
Historically, Siliwangi was a Project 30-bis destroyer built in the Soviet Union. She entered service in 1951 and was transferred to the Indonesian Navy in 1959, where she was renamed Siliwangi. This makes her one of the more unusual historical ships represented in the Pan-Asian destroyer roster.
The main battery is the defining feature of the ship. Siliwangi's four 130 mm guns reach 12.51 km and reload in 4.5 seconds. Their high projectile velocity and accuracy make them comfortable to use at ranges where many destroyer guns become difficult to aim effectively. The ship can therefore maintain useful fire without constantly exposing herself to close-range engagements.
Siliwangi's SAP shells are particularly important because they reward careful target selection. With a maximum damage of 2,500 per shell, a well-placed salvo can deal substantial damage to targets that present suitable armor surfaces. Rather than relying on maximum DPM, the ship benefits from making each salvo count and switching targets when an opponent becomes poorly suited to SAP fire.
The limited number of guns does create an important drawback. Siliwangi has relatively low DPM, which means she should not try to out-trade high-DPM gunboats in prolonged close-range fights. Her advantage is the ability to engage from a more comfortable distance, where her accuracy and shell performance matter more than the number of barrels firing.
Her consumable combination gives the ship additional flexibility. Smoke Generator can be used to create safe firing opportunities or disengage after taking fire, while Hydroacoustic Search provides valuable information around capture points and islands. Hydro is particularly useful when operating from or near smoke because it can expose approaching ships and detect incoming torpedoes.
This makes Siliwangi particularly effective when playing around terrain rather than simply sitting in open water. Islands can be used to control the distance to enemy ships, while Smoke provides another layer of concealment when a firing position becomes dangerous. Hydro then reduces the risk of being surprised by an enemy destroyer or torpedo attack.
Against enemy destroyers, avoid treating Siliwangi as a pure close-range brawler. The ship's low DPM means that taking a prolonged point-blank gunfight against a stronger gunboat can quickly become unfavorable. Instead, use concealment and Hydro to establish the engagement and exploit situations where the enemy destroyer is already damaged or unable to return effective fire.
Against cruisers and larger ships, Siliwangi's accurate guns become much easier to exploit. Maintain a distance where the ship can continuously fire while using maneuvering and terrain to limit incoming damage. The objective is not to overwhelm targets with sheer volume of fire, but to accumulate reliable damage while remaining difficult to punish.
The result is a specialized destroyer that rewards accuracy, positioning and target selection. Siliwangi lacks the raw DPM of dedicated gunboats, but her accurate 130 mm battery, SAP ammunition, Smoke Generator and Hydroacoustic Search give her a strong toolkit for controlled mid-to-long-range engagements and objective support.
