Destroyer - Pan-Asia Tier VI Anshan - Captain & Gunboat Build
- Build focus: A Soviet-style gunboat build for Anshan, using the ship's strong 130 mm main battery, Smoke Generator and Engine Boost.
- Playstyle: Anshan is a Pan-Asian destroyer with handling and gunboat characteristics similar to the Soviet Gnevny. It can be played as a Tier VI Soviet-style gunboat while benefiting from longer-range 8 km torpedoes.
- Historical reference: Anshan is a Gnevny-class destroyer that was transferred from the Soviet Union to China in the 1950s, served in the People's Liberation Army Navy until 1992, and is now preserved as a museum ship in Qingdao.
- Recommended build: Use the Russian/Soviet Delny gunboat captain build as the basis for Anshan. In Upgrade Slot 3, take Main Battery Modification 2 because Anshan's slow turret traverse can otherwise make the guns difficult to use while maneuvering and dodging.
- Gun range: Additional main battery range is normally unnecessary at typical Tier VI combat distances, especially given the relative lack of radar at this tier. If extra range is preferred, trade Preventive Maintenance and Basic Firing Training for the required range-focused skills.
- Upgrade alternative: If you do not have the Engine Boost Modification 1 upgrade, use Engine Room Protection (ERP) instead.
- Applies to: VI Anshan.
Anshan is a Tier VI Pan-Asian premium destroyer that plays much like a Soviet gunboat destroyer. Her four 130 mm guns have the same basic caliber and shell characteristics as Gnevny, while the ship adds an important advantage in the form of longer-range torpedoes. This makes Anshan a flexible gunboat that can use her main battery for sustained pressure while retaining torpedoes for area denial and attacks against larger targets.
The recommended setup follows the Delny gunboat build. The key upgrade choice is Main Battery Modification 2 in Slot 3. Anshan has relatively slow turret traverse, so improving the main battery's handling is important when actively maneuvering, dodging incoming fire or fighting other destroyers at closer range.
Extra main battery range is generally not a priority for this build. Tier VI engagements commonly occur within Anshan's existing firing range, and the relatively limited radar presence at this tier reduces the need to maximize gun range at all times. If additional range is important for your playstyle, trade Preventive Maintenance and Basic Firing Training for the appropriate range-focused skills.
Anshan also has a useful historical connection to the Soviet Gnevny class. The ship was originally built as Rekordny, a Project 7 destroyer, before being transferred to China and commissioned as Anshan. She was decommissioned in 1992 and remains preserved in Qingdao as a museum ship. In World of Warships, that history is reflected in a gameplay profile that closely resembles a Soviet destroyer while being classified as a Pan-Asian ship.
