Battleships - Germany Tier VIII Bismarck '41 & Eiserner Kanzler
Captain & Ship Build and Strategy Guide
- Build focus: Manual secondary brawler build
- Playstyle: Close- to mid-range kiting and brawling
- Key skill: IFHE for improved secondary penetration
- Skill option: Demolition Expert can replace Preventive Maintenance to offset IFHE's fire chance penalty
- Build comparison: Similar to the Schlieffen build, but uses Fire Prevention instead of Enhanced Repair Expert
- Main weakness: Slow main-battery reload and no Hydroacoustic Search
- Recommended range: Approximately 6–12 km
- Eiserner Kanzler: Clone of Bismarck '41 with her historical battle-scarred appearance
- Applies to: Bismarck '41 and Eiserner Kanzler
Bismarck '41 is the dedicated secondary-brawling counterpart to the tech-tree Bismarck. She is designed to get much more out of the player-controlled secondary battery, turning the familiar German battleship into a more specialized close-range fighter. Eiserner Kanzler is based directly on Bismarck '41 and is essentially a clone with a battle-scarred appearance.
The build closely follows the Schlieffen secondary setup, with one important change: Fire Prevention is preferred over Enhanced Repair Expert because Bismarck '41 uses the standard battleship Repair Party and Damage Control Party setup. IFHE is part of the build, while Demolition Expert can be used instead of Preventive Maintenance if you want to recover some of the fire-starting capability lost to IFHE.
There is no Hydroacoustic Search to help deal with incoming torpedoes, so the ship demands more awareness than the standard Bismarck. Destroyers and torpedo-equipped cruisers are particularly dangerous when you commit to a predictable push. Keep track of enemy positions before entering a brawl and avoid charging through areas where torpedoes are likely to be waiting.
Despite the obvious temptation to press W and charge straight through the center of the map, Bismarck '41 is generally more effective as a close- to mid-range kiter. Around 6–12 km, the secondaries can continuously pressure enemy ships while your main battery punishes targets that attempt to turn away or escape.
Use the opening stages of the battle to gather information and establish where the enemy is concentrated. Your strong secondary armament does not mean you need to rush into range immediately. Preserving your HP and allowing the enemy team to become committed creates much better opportunities for a secondary push later.
Once an enemy flank begins to weaken, close the distance and put the secondary battery to work. Islands and friendly smoke can make the approach safer, while a controlled reverse or kiting angle can keep several of your guns active without exposing you to unnecessary fire from the entire enemy team.
The slow main-battery reload makes every salvo important. Watch for ships that expose their sides while trying to escape your secondary range and use the main guns to punish those moments. Your secondaries provide the sustained damage, but the main battery can deliver the burst needed to finish a target or force it to disengage.
The key to Bismarck '41 is knowing when not to brawl. If several enemy ships can focus you, your secondary advantage will not compensate for the incoming damage. Let enemies push into your effective range when appropriate, isolate targets and use your superior close-range firepower when the tactical situation gives you the advantage.
Bismarck '41 and Eiserner Kanzler reward aggressive captains, but the strongest games come from controlled aggression rather than reckless charges. Get close enough for the secondaries to matter, keep the enemy under pressure and use your main battery to punish anyone trying to escape the fight.
