Battleship - Spain Tier IX Triunfante
Captain & Ship Build and Strategy Guide
- Build focus: Damage-oriented main battery build
- Playstyle: Mid-range battleship with a powerful Alternative Fire Mode
- Main strength: Dramatically increased damage output at close range
- Alternative Fire Mode: +40% AP damage and +10% HE damage
- Alt-fire range: Locked to 14.5 km
- Super Heavy AP: Strong synergy with Alternative Fire Mode
- Slot 6: Main Battery Modification 3 is preferred because GFCS2 does not increase Alternative Fire range
- Safer build: Replace Super Heavy AP with Improved Repair Party Readiness
- Commander: Pascual Topete is a good fit for the Super Heavy AP build
- Armor: St. Vincent-style hull with 32mm bow and stern protection
- Main weakness: Poor rear firing angles make kiting difficult
- Key limitation: Triunfante has standard acceleration rather than the improved acceleration of St. Vincent
- Applies to: Triunfante
Triunfante is a Tier IX Spanish battleship built around a powerful Alternative Fire Mode that trades main-battery range for a substantial damage increase. Her St. Vincent-style hull gives her respectable durability for Tier IX, including 32mm bow and stern armor, but poor rear firing angles make traditional kiting more awkward.
The recommended build is focused on damage. Super Heavy APworks particularly well with Triunfante's Alternative Fire Mode because the two mechanics stack to create extremely high potential AP damage. A standard tank battleship build remains viable, but it does not take full advantage of what makes Triunfante unique.
Main Battery Modification 3 is preferred over GFCS2 because the Alternative Fire Mode has a fixed range of 14.5 km. Increasing the ship's normal gun range does not increase the range of the alternative firing mode, so the reload reduction provided by MBM3 is the more useful choice for this build.
If you want a safer setup, Super Heavy AP can be replaced with Improved Repair Party Readiness. This sacrifices some of Triunfante's maximum damage potential in exchange for greater survivability, making the build more forgiving during battles where getting into Alternative Fire range is difficult.
Pascual Topete is a good commander choice for the Super Heavy AP setup. His improved skills complement the offensive build, while his activated talents provide additional benefits when they are triggered. The talents themselves are useful but should not be the main reason to choose the commander.
Triunfante can play like a conventional battleship at longer ranges, but her real strength appears at 14 km and below Alternative Fire Mode increases AP damage by 40% and HE damage by 10%, while locking the firing range to 14.5 km. This creates a dramatic increase in damage output once you can safely operate inside that range.
Do not rush into that range at the beginning of the battle simply because the alternative mode is available. An early aggressive position can produce a surprise high-damage salvo, but it also exposes Triunfante to concentrated enemy fire. Start the battle like a normal battleship, gather information and close the distance once the enemy formation has weakened enough to make the risk worthwhile.
The poor rear firing angles are another reason to avoid relying on traditional kiting. Instead of continuously running away while trying to keep the entire main battery firing, look for positions where islands or your flank placement allow you to maintain offensive pressure without exposing unnecessary amounts of the hull.
Interestingly, the limited 14.5 km Alternative Fire range also creates a defensive trick: once you move outside your gun bloom detection range, you can disengage and disappear even though the guns themselves would normally be able to fire farther. This gives Triunfante a surprisingly useful way to reset an engagement when the enemy begins focusing her.
Triunfante is ultimately a battleship of two phases. Stay at conventional ranges while the enemy is strong, then close inside 14 km when you have the positional advantage and activate Alternative Fire Mode to dramatically increase your damage output. The key is not getting into range quickly—it is getting there at the right moment.
