Sevastopolis a Tier X Soviet large cruiser that essentially cosplays as a battlecruiser. Her 380 mm main battery gives her battleship-caliber firepower, while her long-duration Repair Party allows her to absorb and recover from punishment over an extended period. Unlike a conventional battleship, however, her guns retain cruiser-like accuracy, making well-placed salvos particularly dangerous against vulnerable enemy ships.
The recommended setup uses a standard Large Cruiser build. The objective is to maximize the value of Sevastopol's main battery while maintaining the survivability required for her unusually aggressive playstyle. Her strength does not come from sustained DPM; it comes from surviving long enough to create repeated opportunities for heavy-caliber AP damage.
The 380 mm guns are the centerpiece of the ship. Their large caliber allows Sevastopol to punish cruisers and other targets that expose their broadside, while the cruiser-style accuracy makes the guns more reliable than their battleship origins might suggest. This combination encourages deliberate target selection and careful shot timing.
AP should generally be the preferred ammunition against broadside targets. A cruiser that exposes enough side armor can lose a substantial amount of HP from a well-placed salvo. When an enemy remains heavily angled, however, HE becomes the more practical option until the angle changes.
Sevastopol's unusual survivability is one of the defining characteristics of the ship. Her Repair Party lasts for a very long time, allowing HP recovery over an extended window. The compensation is a very long cooldown, so wasting a heal or using it at the wrong moment can leave the ship without its primary recovery tool for a significant portion of the battle.
For this reason, start your heals early. The long action duration means there is little benefit in waiting until Sevastopol is nearly destroyed before activating the consumable. Using it while substantial recoverable damage is available allows the ship to begin regenerating HP while continuing to maneuver and fight.
At the same time, do not activate Repair Party simply because the ship has taken a small amount of damage. The cooldown is long, so the heal should be planned around sustained combat rather than minor scratches. The ideal activation is when Sevastopol expects to remain under pressure for some time and can recover a meaningful amount of HP.
The standard Large Cruiser build can be modified with the 4-point AA skill. This is a viable option because the skill reduces the cooldown of Sevastopol's Repair Party. The cost is giving up other valuable skills, such as Survivability Expert, Heavy AP or Gunner's Mate, so the choice should depend on which aspect of the ship you value most.
Outnumbered is another reasonable alternative to Top Grade Gunner. The choice gives you additional flexibility when fighting under pressure from multiple enemies and can provide a useful offensive boost during aggressive engagements.
Kuznetsov can certainly be used as the commander, but he is better prioritized for other Soviet ships where his special talents and bonuses provide greater overall value. Sevastopol does not require him to function effectively, so a general-purpose Soviet cruiser commander remains a perfectly practical option.
Hydroacoustic Search Modification 1 is the recommended upgrade because Sevastopol's aggressive playstyle often brings her into situations where torpedoes and concealed ships become serious threats. Hydro provides additional information and makes close-range positioning safer. Damage Control System Modification 1 is the fallback when Hydro modification is unavailable.
Sevastopol should generally fight at close to mid range. Her guns are most effective when targets are close enough for accurate fire, while her armor and Repair Party give her the durability required to remain in dangerous areas longer than most cruisers. The objective is not to rush into the enemy fleet, but to create situations where you can safely attract enemy attention.
This is the essence of the ship's gameplay: bait enemies into shooting your tanky hull. Every enemy salvo aimed at Sevastopol instead of a fragile allied cruiser or destroyer can create additional room for your team to make plays. Your job is to remain difficult enough to kill that the enemy must spend significant resources trying to remove you.
However, baiting fire only works when the incoming damage is controlled. If several battleships have a clear crossfire into Sevastopol, simply remaining exposed can result in catastrophic damage. Use islands, angling and movement to limit the number of guns that can engage you at once.
The opening phase should therefore focus on establishing an aggressive but defensible position. You want to be close enough to influence enemy cruisers and destroyers while still having enough terrain or open water to disengage. Sevastopol's durability gives you more freedom than a fragile cruiser, but it does not make bad positioning harmless.
Against broadside cruisers, the 380 mm guns should be used aggressively. Watch for enemies turning across your flank, especially those attempting to disengage from an allied ship. The heavy AP salvo can produce significant damage when the target gives you enough side.
Against angled cruisers, avoid wasting repeated AP salvos. Switch to HE or wait for the target to change direction. Sevastopol's low sustained damage output means that firing inefficiently is particularly costly. You want the largest possible return from every reload cycle.
Destroyers are a more situational target. The large-caliber guns can inflict heavy damage when a destroyer is exposed, but Sevastopol should not be played as a dedicated DD hunter. Use allied spotting and Hydro to support the fight, then take the high-value shot when the target becomes predictable.
Hydro is especially useful when operating around capture points and islands. It improves torpedo warning and can reveal nearby concealed ships, giving Sevastopol the information needed to maintain an aggressive position without walking blindly into a torpedo trap.
One of the main limitations of the ship is her Damage Control Party. You carry a very limited number of uses, so do not waste DCP on single fires or minor problems. Preserve it for situations where continued fire or flooding would threaten the ship's survival or prevent the Repair Party from doing its job effectively.
This makes damage control management unusually important. A single unnecessary DCP activation can leave Sevastopol vulnerable later when a serious fire or flooding event occurs. Resist the temptation to remove every minor effect immediately and instead consider the overall tactical situation.
Speed Boost provides another important defensive option. Use it to increase Sevastopol's ability to dodge incoming shells, especially when enemy battleships have already fired and you have enough time to alter your course before the salvo arrives.
The Speed Boost is also useful during close-range drive-bys. A sudden increase in speed can help Sevastopol pass an enemy ship more quickly, reduce the time spent in a dangerous point-blank position and create a more favorable angle for the next attack. It can even be used to dodge a ram attempt when the situation becomes particularly close.
Open-water combat is viable, but movement must remain deliberate. Sevastopol's durability allows her to fight under fire for longer than most cruisers, but predictable movement will still allow battleships to land repeated hits. Vary speed and heading while maintaining enough space to react to incoming fire.
The ship's cruiser-like accuracy makes mid-range combat particularly attractive. At these distances, the guns can reliably punish cruisers while Sevastopol remains far enough away to avoid being trapped in an unavoidable close-range engagement. This range also gives the ship enough time to exploit Speed Boost for dodging.
The key to effective positioning is always having a reason to be under fire. If you are attracting enemy attention while holding a strategically important position, dealing damage and surviving through your Repair Party, then the incoming fire is productive. If you are simply sitting exposed in open water without influencing anything important, the same damage becomes wasteful.
Against battleships, use their attention to your advantage. If a battleship is already firing at Sevastopol, use maneuvering to make that salvo difficult to land and continue attacking a more vulnerable target. The goal is to keep the battleship occupied while your 380 mm guns punish cruisers or another enemy ship gives your team an opening.
Do not become so focused on tanking that you stop contributing damage. Sevastopol's value comes from combining durability with heavy firepower. The enemy should have a reason to continue shooting at you because you are simultaneously causing enough damage to require a response.
Mid-game is where this balance becomes easier to maintain. As enemy numbers decrease, Sevastopol can move more aggressively toward isolated ships. Her large-caliber guns become more threatening while the reduction in incoming fire makes the tanking role easier to manage.
This is also where you should begin looking for close-range opportunities. An isolated cruiser that cannot rely on several supporting ships is an excellent target for Sevastopol. Use islands or concealment to close the distance, then punish the cruiser when it exposes its broadside.
The long-duration Repair Party can be particularly powerful during these extended mid-game fights. Start the heal as soon as the situation is likely to produce sustained recoverable damage, allowing the consumable to work while you continue fighting rather than waiting until the final moments.
The AA-skill alternative becomes more attractive for players who find themselves repeatedly using the Repair Party and having long periods where the consumable remains unavailable. Reducing the cooldown can improve the overall rhythm of the ship, although the opportunity cost of giving up Survivability Expert, Heavy AP or Gunner's Mate should always be considered.
In the late game, Sevastopol can become a major problem for isolated enemy ships. A cruiser that is forced to expose its broadside can be heavily punished, while the ship's durability makes it difficult for the opponent to simply trade damage and walk away.
Use Speed Boost more aggressively at this stage. With fewer ships available to create crossfires, the mobility increase can be used to close distance, chase retreating enemies or dodge attacks during close-range engagements. Just remember that Sevastopol's speed is a tactical tool, not a substitute for positioning.
The late game is also the best environment for aggressive drive-bys. When only a few enemy ships remain, a close-range pass can be much safer because there are fewer supporting guns capable of punishing the maneuver. Use Speed Boost to control the distance and avoid remaining broadside in front of the target longer than necessary.
The biggest mistake with Sevastopol is treating her like a normal battleship. Although she has battleship-caliber guns and considerable durability, she is still a large cruiser. Her advantage comes from combining armor with cruiser mobility and accuracy, not from simply absorbing every salvo.
Another mistake is wasting Repair Party because of its long duration. The fact that the heal lasts for a long time does not mean it should be delayed indefinitely. Starting it earlier allows more of the duration to be converted into actual HP recovered. The limitation is the long cooldown, so each activation still needs to be meaningful.
Poor DCP management is another common problem. Sevastopol's limited DCP charges should be treated as a precious resource. A single fire is usually not worth immediately spending one unless the situation makes the damage genuinely dangerous. Preserve DCP for serious fires, flooding or other effects that threaten your ability to remain in combat.
Do not neglect your main guns while tanking. The best way to justify the attention you attract is to punish enemy ships while they are focusing you. A broadside cruiser is the ideal target, but battleships and destroyers can also be attacked when they provide a favorable opportunity.
Overall, Sevastopol is a Tier X Soviet large cruiser that combines battleship-caliber 380 mm guns with cruiser-like accuracy and exceptional durability from her long-duration Repair Party. She is designed to remain in combat for long periods while waiting for opportunities to punish enemy ships with heavy main-battery salvos.
The ideal Sevastopol strategy is to bait controlled enemy fire, use your durable hull to absorb pressure, recover that damage with timely Repair Party activations and punish broadside targets with accurate 380 mm AP. Use Hydro to make close positions safer, conserve DCP carefully and save Speed Boost for moments where dodging or repositioning can change the engagement.
Sevastopol rewards players who understand controlled aggression. Do not simply rush into the enemy fleet, and do not sit passively at maximum range. Find the position where the enemy has to respect your guns, force them to spend attention on you and use your durability to remain there long enough for your team to exploit the space you create.
