Roussillion is a Tier IX French battleship designed around long-range precision and mobility. Her fast shells and battlecruiser-style accuracy make her an excellent sniper, while Engine Boost can push her speed to roughly 38 knots. She also carries a Main Battery Reload Booster, giving her the ability to create occasional bursts of additional firepower.
The standard French battleship build is the recommended setup. There is little reason to create a completely separate captain because the existing tech-tree French BB build already complements Roussillion's strengths. The main emphasis is on keeping the guns effective while maintaining the mobility and consumable utility needed for her sniper role.
Consumable Specialist is particularly valuable because Roussillion's Main Battery Reload Booster is an important part of her burst damage. Reducing its cooldown allows you to access additional follow-up salvos more frequently. Honoré is also a strong commander choice thanks to his improved skills, while Auboyneau is a reasonable alternative when you can consistently activate his talents.
Roussillion is most effective as a mobile mid- to back-line sniper. Use Engine Boost to reach favorable firing positions quickly, then exploit the ship's accuracy and fast shell velocity against enemy cruisers and battleships. Her relatively slow base reload means every salvo should be carefully aimed rather than fired simply because the guns are ready.
The Main Battery Reload Booster is best used for important follow-up opportunities. A broadside cruiser that is about to disappear, a damaged battleship attempting to escape or another high-value target can justify using the consumable to accelerate the next salvo. It should complement your normal firing rhythm rather than compensate for poor target selection.
Engine Boost is equally valuable defensively. Use the extra speed to dodge incoming fire, change position quickly or leave an increasingly dangerous flank. Roussillion is much less comfortable once enemies get close, so mobility should be used to prevent close-range fights from developing whenever possible.
Keep in mind that Roussillion has one fewer Repair Party charge than standard battleships. Her hull is also relatively vulnerable at close range, making unnecessary damage especially costly. Use range and speed as your primary defenses and avoid treating the ship like a conventional tank battleship.
In Slot 2, Engine Room Protection is preferred because maintaining mobility is important to the ship's survival. If you do not have the upgrade available, Damage Control System Modification 1 is the straightforward alternative.
Roussillion rewards captains who constantly look for the next firing position. Use speed to move into advantageous locations, take precise shots from range and leave before the enemy can force you into a close fight. Her combination of accuracy, speed and Main Battery Reload Booster makes her a formidable sniper when you make every shot count.
