- Applies to: Indomitable
Indomitable is a Tier VIII British aircraft carrier built around speed and repeated hit-and-run attacks. Her aircraft are exceptionally fast, allowing her to quickly reach isolated targets and return for another strike, but she lacks the large alpha strike of many other carriers and has no torpedo bombers to apply flooding.
Indomitable uses a custom carrier build because there are no torpedo bombers to benefit from torpedo-focused skills. For stronger fighter support, Pyrotechnician can be replaced with Patrol Group Leaderand Search and Destroy. This is a useful alternative when you want the carrier to contribute more to air control rather than maximizing direct damage.
Her gameplay revolves around the HE dive bombers and damage-over-time farming. Use the rockets to scout the map, harass destroyers and attack isolated ships while looking for the next important target. Pay particular attention to enemy Damage Control Party usage, because Indomitable becomes much more dangerous once a target has already committed its DCP.
The rockets have 28mm HE penetration, making them useful against destroyers and cruisers. They are also ideal for maintaining pressure between bomber strikes because of the aircraft's very high speed. Do not think of the rockets as the carrier's primary damage source; their main value is scouting, harassment and keeping pressure on targets between bomber attacks.
The HE dive bombers are the main damage dealers. Their bombs penetrate 33mm of armor, allowing them to tear apart lightly armored targets and deal direct damage to suitable battleship sections. Against heavily armored high-tier battleships, however, you will rely more heavily on their excellent fire chance to generate damage over time.
This makes DCP management extremely important. Once an enemy uses Damage Control Party, the next bomber attack becomes much more valuable. Look for isolated or important targets, wait for the right opportunity and then repeatedly attack them to maximize fires before they can reset the damage-over-time effects.
Indomitable can also use a slingshot technique with her HE bombers. Begin an attack run at approximately 7–8 km from the target and release the bombs without worrying about hitting the target. While the bombs are falling, accelerate the bomber squadron toward the enemy. If performed correctly, the squadron should end up around 3 km from the target and immediately be in position for the main strike.
This works because Indomitable retains an older dive-bomber interaction that was removed from other carriers. During the brief invulnerability period after the attack and before control returns to the squadron, the aircraft can effectively bypass part of the enemy AA exposure. This is particularly useful against high-AA targets such as Worcester or Gouden Leeuw.
The key to Indomitable is repetition. Scout with rockets, identify an important target, monitor DCP, then use the HE bombers to stack fires and DoT before returning for another strike. Her exceptional aircraft speed lets her repeat this process faster than many carriers, allowing her to maintain relentless pressure across the battlefield.
