Destroyer - Commonwealth Tier VII Huron - Captain & Gunboat Build
- Build focus: An open-water gunboat build for Huron, built around her main battery, Repair Party and Hydroacoustic Search.
- Playstyle: Huron is a Tier VII Commonwealth destroyer that trades Smoke Generator for Repair Party and Hydroacoustic Search. With relatively weak torpedo firepower, the ship relies heavily on her guns for sustained damage.
- Gunboat role: Huron can be viewed as an open-water gunboat version of Haida, with better shell ballistics but without a Smoke Generator. Her good concealment also allows her to close distance and engage enemy destroyers.
- Captain skills: Use the standard gunboat destroyer build. You can trade Concealment Expert for +20% main battery firing range if you prefer easier long-range farming, particularly when fighting secondary-focused battleships. The trade-off is reduced effectiveness against stealthy enemy destroyers.
- Upgrade priority: Engine Boost Modification 1 is preferred because the additional evasion helps Huron conserve HP during prolonged gunfights. The Hydroacoustic Search modification is also viable, but less optimal.
- Upgrade alternative: If you do not have the Engine Boost Modification 1 upgrade, use Engine Room Protection (ERP) instead.
- Applies to: VII Huron.
Huron is a Tier VII Commonwealth destroyer designed primarily as an open-water gunboat. Unlike Haida, Huron does not have a Smoke Generator. Instead, she trades smoke for Repair Party and Hydroacoustic Search, giving the ship additional survivability and utility during sustained gun engagements.
Huron's torpedo armament is relatively weak, so the recommended build focuses heavily on the main battery. Her guns have better shell ballistics than Haida, making open-water engagements more comfortable and allowing Huron to farm damage at greater distances. This makes her an effective gunboat when maintaining the correct engagement range and using her mobility to avoid incoming fire.
The standard gunboat destroyer buildis recommended. Players who want additional farming range can trade Concealment Expert for a skill providing increased main battery range. The additional range can be particularly useful when attacking battleships that rely heavily on secondary armament. However, losing Concealment Expert makes it harder to approach and fight stealthier enemy destroyers, so the choice depends on the preferred playstyle.
Huron's good concealment still makes her effective at closing distance against other destroyers. Use concealment to establish favorable engagements, then rely on the main battery, Hydroacoustic Search and Repair Party to maintain pressure while managing incoming damage.
